Please join the Denver Art Museum's Native Arts and Provenance departments, along with special guests from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, for a lively panel discussion on the vital role provenance research plays in museums.

The panel will examine provenance research as a cornerstone of ethical collecting and explore how it contributes to the return of objects to their rightful countries of origin. The discussion will also address the importance of fostering international relationships that extend beyond repatriation, highlighting the recent return of a plaque to the Kingdom of Benin. This will include a brief intercontinental conversation with Mr. Olugbile Holloway, Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) of Nigeria.

Featured in-person panelists include MacKenzie Mallon, Head of Provenance for the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, and Dr. Jacques Schuhmacher, Executive Director of Provenance for the Art Institute of Chicago. They will be joined by Denver Art Museum Arts of Africa Fellow Syokau Mutonga and Provenance Research Fellow Mac Coyle, with moderation by Renée Albiston, Head of Provenance Research.

Donations to this fund are invested by the DAM foundation with the intention to grow the fund in value over time. This fund provides an annual distribution based on the Foundation's policy.  Distributed funds are used to acquire new artwork for the DAM.

The Museum regularly reconciles expenditures made from distributed funds to ensure that they are allocated as intended.

Untitled: Artist Takeover is a quarterly collaboration with local artists and creatives to create an evening full of events, performances, artmaking, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Throughout the night, artists showcase their work while providing a hands-on and engaging atmosphere.

Create & Play is an early childhood program for ages 0-5 and their caregivers. The group is welcomed on the third Thursday of each month from October through May.

Upon arrival, participants check in at the front desk in the Hamilton Building and head down to Sharp Auditorium. There the kids are greeted by two very talented actors who initiate everyone into the "Imagination Factory." The kids are then tasked with solving a big problem: the creativity juice has run out! They must get more! To do this, the group is led to the galleries to collect the creativity juice by looking at and engaging with art! The program ends with artmaking in the early childhood classroom.

Join us for our annual Día del Niño (Children's Day) festivities, a global celebration of children, with a wide variety of live music, dance performances, art making, and free general admission for everyone.
